Job Summary

  • The Metallurgical Engineer is responsible for ensuring raw materials and manufactured products of
  • automobile components meet set standards of quality, reliability, and performance. The Engineer is
  • also responsible for evaluating the chemical and physical properties of alloys and metallic materials to
  • be used for construction and other industrial purposes. This role ensures the performance of facility
  • equipment and processes. This position maintains, troubleshoots, and/or tests hot stamping and
  • mechanical equipment or
  • related automated production systems. This role may visually inspect or manually test raw materials
  • or complete products of automobile components, before, during, or after the manufacturing process.
  • The main objective is to test the product for its intended use and make sure it performs up to the
  • manufacturer's specifications. May establish procedures and processes for sampling, recording, and
  • reporting of quality data and ensure plant quality control procedures are being followed to prevent
  • the production of bad or unacceptable blocks.

Job Description

  • Reviews the reports of QC activities being performed, any test reports of materials, or any
  • problems during the day.
  • Implements internal/external quality requirements to ensure company products/services
  • meet customer expectations.
  • Provide technical advice about the suitability of metals for different purposes.
  • Testing material for hot stamping dooring and panels.
  • Assisting in CMM checks & conducting reliability tests.
  • Investigating corrosion and metal failure/fatigue.
  • Developing new test and repair processes.
  • Investigating production/quality control problems.
  • Preserve safety in wearing proper personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Documenting and preparing records of all research procedures and details.
  • Provide metallurgical support to the melting and heat treatment functions.
  • Testing and evaluating efficiency, characteristics and performance of new and current alloys.
  • Ensuring adherence to manufacturing quality standards.
  • Periodically trains production personnel to enhance their skill and knowledge of product
  • quality requirements.
  • Performs analysis of raw materials and designs for quality, cost, and effectiveness.
  • Conducts and monitors the analysis/inspection of raw materials and final products to ensure
  • compliance with set specifications.
  • Ensures manufacturing processes comply with local and global standards of production.
  • Oversees the training of quality assurance personnel to ensure an effective work unit.
  • Interacts with other departments to ensure compliance with specification and to facilitate the
  • acceptance of parts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related field required.
  • Knowledge of computer and measuring instruments.
  • Experience in an automotive manufacturing company strongly preferred.
  • 4+ year of experience in inspection and measurement at a manufacturing or processing
  • company required.
  • Ability to apply and have a strong understanding of materials and mechanical engineering
  • concepts.
  • In-depth understanding of metallurgical properties and composition as well as related heat
  • treatment processes.
  • Analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Close attention to detail.
  • Good organizational and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Overtime expected and required on short notice, with flexibility based on plant production
  • schedules.
  • Proficient, quick, and comfortable with personal computer navigation and operation.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Flexibility based on plant production schedules.

Physical Requirements and Demands

  • Work is considered low physical work in an office and production setting, requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform low physical work indoors with minimum exposure to dust.
  • Must be able to:
  • Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, use hands to handle objects and reach with hands and arms.
  • Will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers or standing for hours at a time.
  • Some lifting of supplies and materials from time to time.
  • Demonstrate the ability to hear and have specific vision abilities to adjust focus, in an environment subject to noise, dust, etc.
  • Perform all work safely in a fast-paced work environment.
  • The incumbent is located in a quiet office area and is faced with constant phone interactions and will be in contact with other staff.
