Job Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to accounting functions and financial reporting. This position will be responsible for daily, weekly and monthly accounting tasks and activities. The Accounting Manager is expected to make recommendations to the Controller and Treasurer for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This position must meet tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation and collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information.

Job Description

The Accounting Manager is responsible for performing highly specialized accounting work required to maintain the general ledger. Working under the direction of the Controller, the Accounting Manger directs and coordinates the daily activities of the accounting staff to quickly and accurately record the revenues, expenditures, assets, and liabilities. The incumbent should be a highly motivated self-starter with supervisory, review, and proofing experience. The incumbent is also responsible for preparing annual financial statements and coordinating the annual audit.

Responsibilities

  • - Achieves accounting operational objectives by contributing accounting information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change.
  • - Confirms financial status by monitoring revenue and expenses; coordinating the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data
  • - Maintains accounting controls by establishing a chart of accounts; defining accounting policies and procedures.
  • - Guides other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy; applying observations and recommendations to operational issues.
  • - Maintains financial security by establishing internal controls.
  • - Apply a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • - Ensures an accurate and timely monthly and year end close
  • - Ensures the timely reporting of all monthly financial information
  • - Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • - Assists in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
  • - Interfaces with other departments to verify transaction report data and issues
  • - Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • - Works with the retained CPA firm to ensure a clean and timely year end audit
  • - Ensures all financial reporting deadlines are met
  • - Provides training to new and existing staff as needed
  • - Maintains organized set of detailed records and files to document financial transactions.
  • - Coordinates monthly and annual closing activities.
  • - Resolves complicated accounting issues and assists other personnel withheld with different responsibility in letting the financial transaction run smoothly.
  • - Monitoring entries in the general ledger on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy of posting.
  • - Maintaining records of vouchers, invoices, checks, bills, tax receipt, account statements, reports and filing it in the ledger.
  • - Maintains year-end functioning paperwork as well as spreadsheets, as well as improves prep for virtually any audits as well as self-sufficient testimonials.
  • - Create, implement as well as observe inside adjustments.
  • - Produces quarterly and annual financial statements and financial reports.
  • - Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • - Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors.
  • - Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • - Maintains an orderly accounting filing system
  • - Maintains a system of controls over accounting transactions
  • - Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • - Manages outsourced functions
  • - Oversees the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
  • - Accomplishes accounting human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.
  • - Oversees the daily accounting activities required to maintain the general ledger.
  • - Supervises, directs, and reviews the work of the accounting staff (including, but not limited to, cash reconciliation, account statement reconciliations, check runs, accounts receivable transactions, fixed asset activity, payroll, accounts payable transactions, debt activity, recording of revenue and expenses, etc.).
  • - Makes and implements recommendations to improve accounting processes and procedures.

Qualifications

  • To performance this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential role and responsibility. Listed below are the minimum and/or desired requirements of the position including education, work experience and knowledge & skills.
  • Education and Work Experience:
  • - BA/BS in Accounting or Business
  • - Five years of experience in the area of financial statement preparation, payroll, purchasing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, or the equivalent
  • - Experience with financial reports, audits and corporate tax documents
  • - Experience working with an automated financial management system and software, SAP preferred
